Montessori Manager for Khom Loy Development Foundation

KLDF is a Thai Foundation based in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. Since 2003 it has been running a number of development projects to help the ethnic minority hilltribe peoples who live on the Thai/Myanmar border in the fields of agriculture/food security, education and job creation. It has 16 staff and an annual budget of Bt3m/US$80,000.

The number of hilltribe people in Thailand is estimated at 500,000. They suffer many social disadvantages including exclusion from health and education provision, restrictions on their movement, lack of identity and nationality papers and HIV/AIDS.

Since 2004 KLDF has been operating an innovative project to bring Montessori (child-based) learning to hilltribe village child care centres, providing nursery education in simple maths and the Thai language. Each centre chosen to participate in the scheme is equipped with locally-made versions of standard Montessori equipment, while staff are given training in Montessori theory and practice, as well as being working alongside a KLDF teacher trainer for one year in the classroom.

There are currently 7 staff and 14 schools in the project, with plans to expand to over 70 schools over the next 4 years. There is also an experienced overseas Montessori consultant teacher to assist the Manager with training and development.

We are seeking a Manager for this project who will head the current project and the planned expansion.
